Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Anchor Scriptures:
“But when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses… in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.”
Acts 1:8 (MSG)
“The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you.”
John 14:26 (MSG)
As we enter the month of May, our hearts are tuned to one central truth: the Christian life is not meant to be lived in human strength alone. We have been given a Helper, a Comforter, and a Power Source – the Holy Spirit.
The same Spirit who hovered over the waters in Genesis, who filled Jesus at His baptism, and who raised Him from the dead now lives in us. This isn’t a distant theology; it’s a present reality.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them – power to live boldly, love deeply, and witness widely. That promise didn’t end in the book of Acts, it’s alive and available to every believer today.
This month, we lean in, not just to learn about the Holy Spirit, but to live empowered by Him.
What Does It Mean to Be Empowered by the Holy Spirit?
1. Power to Witness
We are called to share the good news, not with fear, but with boldness. The Holy Spirit gives us words to speak and hearts to reach. He turns ordinary conversations into divine encounters.
2. Help to Understand
As John 14:26 says, the Spirit teaches and reminds us. He brings clarity to Scripture and direction in decisions. He leads us gently but firmly into God’s best.
3. Strength to Overcome
The Holy Spirit helps us resist temptation, walk in truth, and stand strong through trials. He is our inner strength when we feel weak or weary.
4. Gifts to Serve
From prophecy to healing, from wisdom to hospitality – the Holy Spirit equips each of us with gifts to build the body of Christ and serve the world around us.
5. Fruit to Reflect Christ
Empowerment isn’t just about what we do, but who we become. The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in us (Galatians 5:22–23).
How to Grow in the Holy Spirit This Month
- Spend time in quiet worship, inviting the Spirit to speak and lead.
- Study Scriptures on the Holy Spirit – Acts, Romans 8, John 14-16, and 1 Corinthians 12-14.
- Ask God to fill you afresh with His Spirit every day.
- Step out in faith and obey the Spirit’s promptings, even when they stretch you.
- Don’t walk this journey alone – gather with others to pray, learn, and grow together.
A Church Empowered
At Solid Rock Derby, we are a Spirit-led community and that means we don’t just rely on good ideas, we rely on God’s presence. We believe that a church empowered by the Holy Spirit is unstoppable, unshakable, and full of life.
This May, we pray that our hearts and homes would be filled anew with the power of God. That chains would break, hearts would be healed, and gifts would be stirred up. That our church would be a place where the Spirit moves freely and people encounter Jesus in a real and lasting way.
Whether you’re seeking more of God or just beginning your journey of faith, you are welcome here. Come and discover the power and presence of the Holy Spirit for yourself.
Let’s walk in power.
Let’s live in victory.
Let’s be empowered by the Holy Spirit – together.
