Walking in Divine Love and Unity
Anchor Scripture: How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
February is often known as the month of love. Around the world, people exchange gifts and flowers, celebrating romance and affection. Here at Solid Rock Derby, we are called to something deeper – divine love and unity.
Divine love is not seasonal or selective, nor is it based on feelings or convenience. Divine love is God’s love flowing through us, empowering us to love others selflessly, just as Christ loves us.
Unity, on the other hand, is the beautiful fruit of that love in action. Psalm 133 paints such a vivid picture: when God’s people dwell together in unity, His blessing flows like oil and dew. His presence rests there.
Why Love and Unity Matter
In a world divided by differences, disagreements, and self-interest, love and unity are radical. They reflect the Kingdom of God. Jesus Himself said that the world would recognise His disciples by one thing: our love for one another (John 13:35).
- Love breaks down barriers – it sees beyond background, culture, or status.
- Unity brings strength – when we walk together, we become unshakable.
- Love and unity invite God’s blessing – His Spirit dwells where hearts are one.
This month, imagine what our church, families, and city could look like if we truly lived in divine love and unity. A community where people don’t just attend the same service but carry each other’s burdens, celebrate each other’s victories, and pursue God’s purpose together.
Practical Ways to Walk in Love and Unity
- Forgive Quickly – Offenses will come, but unity is preserved when we choose forgiveness over resentment.
- Serve Selflessly – Love grows in action. Look for ways to bless someone without expecting anything in return.
- Celebrate Others – Instead of competition, choose encouragement. Speak life and honour into someone’s journey.
- Pray for One Another – Unity is strengthened when we lift each other before God.
Our Charge This Month
As we step into February, let us be intentional about how we love and walk in unity:
- At home, let love lead.
- At church, let unity be our culture.
- In the city, let people encounter Jesus through how we treat one another.
“How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along!” Psalm 133:1 (MSG)
Let this be more than a verse – let it be our reality.
This month, we invite you to experience God’s love in a tangible way. Come worship, pray, and grow in a community where love and unity aren’t just words – they are lived out. Together, we can be a city on a hill that shines brightly with the love of Christ.
What other practical ways can we walk in love and unity? Leave your suggestions in the comments and let’s discuss.
