Trusting the Steps You Cannot See: Living a Faith-Fuelled Life

Have you ever stood at a crossroads, not knowing which way to turn, and felt that familiar knot in your stomach? That moment when the path ahead is unclear, the future feels uncertain, and every voice around you seems to offer a different direction – that is precisely the moment faith is called upon to speak the loudest.

At Solid Rock Church, we often talk about faith as something we declare on a Sunday morning. But what does it actually look like from Monday through Saturday? What does it mean to truly live by faith, not just speak it?

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”  – 2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

These eight words from the Apostle Paul carry the weight of a whole theology. Walking by faith is not a one-off decision – it is a daily, deliberate choosing of God’s truth over the evidence of our circumstances. Let’s look at what this really means in practice.

1. Faith Is Active, Not Passive

One of the biggest misconceptions about faith is that it means sitting back and waiting for God to do everything. But a closer look at Scripture reveals something different. Noah built an ark before a single drop of rain had fallen. Abraham packed his bags and left his homeland without a forwarding address. Faith, in the Bible, almost always involves movement.

What step have you been hesitating to take because you couldn’t see the full picture? Faith asks you to take the first step before the second becomes visible.

2. Faith Is Fed by the Word

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  – Romans 10:17 NKJV

A faith that is not rooted in God’s Word is really just optimism. To develop a genuine, enduring, tested faith, we must consistently engage with Scripture. This means more than reading a verse before bed – it means letting the Word reshape the way we think, interpret our circumstances, and respond to challenges. If your faith feels weak right now, ask yourself honestly: how much time am I giving to the Word?

3. Faith Is Refined Through Difficulty

This is perhaps the hardest truth to accept: the trials in your life are not signs that God has forgotten you. They are the very crucible in which your faith is strengthened. James tells us to count it all joy when we fall into various trials, because the testing of our faith produces patience and maturity (James 1:2-4). The pressure you are feeling today might be the very thing God is using to press gold out of you.

4. Faith Requires Community

We were never designed to navigate the life of faith alone. That is why gathering together with other believers matters so deeply – not just to sing songs, but to carry each other’s burdens, to speak truth when doubt creeps in, and to remind one another of God’s faithfulness. If you are struggling to believe right now, let the faith of someone else hold you until yours is restored.

Living a faith-fuelled life is not about having all the answers. It is about trusting the One who does. And as you take each unseen step, remember: the God who parted seas and raised the dead is the same God walking alongside you today.
