Derby Big Lunch (DBL), An Eden Project Communities led by local charity.
RCCG Solid Rock Derby, holds the Derby Big Lunch (DBL), every year
. The event celebrates all things community and what’s great about Derby.
There are areas for people to find out about great things happening in Derby:
- Community Corner showcasing different community-led initiatives and projects that are working hard on transforming Derby
- Market Corner showcasing local independent businesses that are helping to re-build Derby’s local economy and
- Kids Corner offering outdoor play activities for the little ones.
- Big Lunch Corner with trestle tables, bunting, music, free food and refreshments. We’ll be inviting shoppers and locals to sit down, share food, make new friends and experience first-hand the transformative power sharing a meal with your community can have.
The Big Lunch:
The Big Lunch has been running for 10 years and millions of people take part across the UK.
It’s all about getting together to share food, have fun and get to know each other better. It’s a
simple idea – that for a few glorious hours, cars stop, shyness stops and neighbours come
together in their street to meet, greet, share, swap, plan and laugh. Each year’s Big Lunch
weekend is happens on the 1st weekend in June.
How you can get involved:
It would be great to see local people, projects and businesses helping us to shape this event so
that it really reflects the true spirit of the town and creates a positive vision of Derby and its
community.
We are looking for ideas about how best to showcase what’s great in Derby. We would love
to hear from you and invite you to showcase your work. There will be stalls available for
people to use but we very much hope that we could include different activities to engage
people e.g. craft tables, play activities, different community groups in Derby etc.
Other ways to support this event could be by helping us as a volunteer on the day or via in
kind donations supporting our Derby Big Lunch and obviously by spreading the word.
